Why ‘Die Stadt’?
The city (Die Stadt in German) is our space of living and coexisting. It’s a living environment, changing, impressive in its biggest and, at the same time, amazing in its smallest. The city gives us the daily sounds and images that are the basis of Die Stadt projects.

Die Stadt is music and image...
That’s right. Die Stadt is an audiovisual concept and can not be understood separately. That’s the novelty of the offer.

Although this concept is not new…
Of course not. The idea of mixing music and image has had a wide development in Europe. In Scandinavian countries the union of ambient and electronic music with video-installations, architecture and other non audible elements has a wide representation. The danish electronic art scene is a good example, with bands like Sea of Tranquility or Tone. So, Die Stadt counts with an important background and many examples to follow while, at the same time, looks for its own style and offers this form of audiovisual art in a geographic area with still a long way to walk.

The band is formed by two people...
At the moment yes. Antonio Montilla is responsible for the musical part and Mara de Miguel is responsible for the visual aspects. This separation makes the work easier: each one work in one area and then the proposals are put together. But those musical and visual aspects are not totally separate departments, and each member can propose ideas about any of them, making the final result even richer. Furthermore, we pretend Die Stadt to have a “flexible architecture”, like cities themselves, allowing other people to collaborate and contribute with variety and richness to the project.

Another interesting aspect of Die Stadt is its bet for the new ways of sharing music...
That’s true. We’d like to reach the wider audience as possible, so we take advantage of new tecnologies. Music distribution is no longer the sole right of multinational companies. Using the Internet our projects are not limited to our geographical area, but can be known all over the world. It can be very gratifying and, at the same time, awesome, to think that someone in Germany, Norway, the United States, or wherever, is enjoying Die Stadt.

Although what closer people can enjoy are the live shows...
Yes, live shows are very important. Since the city is the source of inspiration, it’s fair to give the result back to the city itself. Both music and projections are live, so we look for making each show different. And we have a great time, too!
